On 25th Sep, 2009, Yangzhou University developed the first chinese LED chip. The scientific and technological project for led high power and high brightness chips which undertaken by the depatment of Physics Yangzhou University in Jiangsu Province have made significant progress, the first trial samples have been on line for 1,000 hours testing. This new light source chip was researched and developed by our own country, and will be used to replace the similar foreign products.
As we know, led is energy-saving lighting products that all the countries intensify on its development, for LED is an alternative to traditional power sources, the chip is the "brain" of LED. to But Domestic LED chip have shortcomings than the imported chips on lifetime, brightness, price etc. This result in high cost of the final product, make it difficult to popularize among consumers, also high-end products rely on imported chips.
According to the introduction of Project Director Professor Zeng Xianghua in this Physics institute, this Optoelectronics Research Center composed by 10 scientific Researchers, aim to redesign the structure of domestic chip, strive to resolve heating problem, and high attenuation problem, in order to enhance their lifespan. ZENG Xiang-hua said , now the first new LED chip samples has been tested successfully, and has obtained three national patents, after 1000 hours of continuous testing, the researchers will also improve the new chip accordingly, and improve the lifespan up to 50,000 hours or more. It is learned that because the new chip is researched and developed by our own, this will greatly reduce the manufacturing costs, finally this LED chip can replace the imported chips.
