Compared to traditional incandescent, LED is more energy-saving, power consumption is 30% to 40% percent lower than incandescent lamp. Of course, there are still some people think that while the LED lighting systems are now available as general lighting purpose, but technology not yet mature, and therefore the cost are high. LED lighting systems cost nearly 10 times higher than the same brightness of incandescent light, a 6.5-watt LED bulb price is high as nearly 400 Hong Kong dollars. Currently, LED lighting systems account for 13% of all HongKong lighting market, has grown 5% than 2008, but the incandescent lamp is still high, and accounting for nearly 70%. Compared to traditional lighting systems, LED is still taken a small part, the cheap incandescent light is the biggest rival of LED lighting, but the LED has a great room for improvement, as the technology matures, costs will be declined in the further.

Osram Asia Pacific Sales Manager Lin zhaoJi also said, LED is growing very fast, he said, compared with the same period in 2008, Osram turnover of this quarter have gained double-digit growth, LED lighting systems will be the trend. He said there were some European countries, in view of incandescent lamp containing liquid silver, and caused environmental damage, is considering banning the use of incandescent bulbs in favor of LED lighting. In his view, the HongKong Government policy on environmental protection is lagging behind Europe and the United States. He welcomes The incandescent policy recommended by the government report, but questioned why not put the more environmentally friendly and energy-saving LED lighting into this report.
